This is such a great study set but also would make a great gift! The set comes with 20, 20 minute beeswax candles and a face with a needle to set them on. There is no scent. I really appreciate that the candles are made in the USA :) And I think it's a great value for your money. It really helps with Bible study and keeping track of your time during Bible study!
These 20 minute candles are very intentional, I prefer staring into the candle for meditation. I ran a timer to determine its burn time and I clocked one at 21 min and 12 seconds before it went out on its own. Leaving behind nothing but a singed wick. It’s fair to say a “20 minute” burn time is super accurate. These candles are approximately the same size as the candles you’d see on a birthday cake. They don’t have any scent, and even when they go out on their own, there’s no lingering smoke smell. Just peace, calm, clarity. This set includes access to a prayer app if you are interested in it. The candles are stored in a glass jar, with a bamboo lid. On the inside of the lid, is the pin point where you mount the candle. It’s a very minimalist design with so much to offer. I highly recommend this for yourself or someone you love. Give yourself at least 20 minutes of meditation and prayer, your life will improve tremendously!!
I have always liked candles and this "20-Minute Candles Set" caught my eye. It is promoted as something that can be used during Bible reading but of course you could use it for any other meditative purpose. Most candles sold today are made from a petroleum byproduct and emit fumes that can affect indoor air quality. Sow candles are better than the petroleum ones, but this set of 20-minute candles is made from beeswax. Beeswax is a natural, biodegradable wax produced by worker honey bees.Centuries ago candles were typically made from tallow (which is an animal fat). Then someone developed the idea of creating candles from beeswax. There is an advantage to that because beeswax candles burn brighter and longer with less smoke, and they smell better than tallow candles. This set of candles arrives in an elegant box suitable for gift-giving. There is a little circular, wood pedestal and on it a small round brass candle holder with sort of little needle at the top on which you mount a candle. BTW, the candles are quite small in height and circumference...but just the right size to have them burn about 20 minutes. After you light the candle, you will notice a pleasant honey scent. The wick is made from real cotton, adding to the purity. At first when I got this I thought you would turn the glass jar upside down over the candle, but quickly realized that would just smother the flame. The glass jar is just meant to hold the candles for storage. So when you do store it, you need to turn the wooden base upside down and insert it on the top of the glass jar so it is sealed and you can then put it back in the box. BTW, refill candles are also available from the same source. This is certainly a unique candle set and it is gratifying and relaxing to have a little candle burning brightly to soothe the soul.
As someone who lives in New York City, is noise sensitive, & has a nervous system that occasionally needs a gentle boundary, I love anything that builds structure into calm. These 20 minute beeswax candles from The Polite House are such a simple idea, but honestly brilliant. You light the candle. You sit. You focus. When the candle is done, so are you.No phone timer. No sudden alarm. No checking the clock. Just a visual, quiet container for 20 minutes of presence. They are made from 100% USA beeswax & are unscented, which I really appreciate. I am very particular about scent. I burn Palo Santo & Nag Champa at home, but for meditation I prefer something neutral. These have that very faint natural beeswax warmth without being perfumed or distracting. The burn time is impressively consistent. They last right around 20 minutes, which makes it easy to build a daily habit. Twenty minutes feels achievable. Long enough to matter, short enough to not negotiate with yourself. They burn cleanly, without excessive smoke or tunneling. The included holder keeps everything stable & contained, which is important in a Brooklyn apartment where space is limited.I also love the ritual aspect. Lighting a small taper feels intentional. It creates a beginning & an end. There is something grounding about watching the flame slowly lower instead of staring at a phone screen counting down seconds. If you struggle to disconnect from devices, or if you want a tangible way to mark prayer, reflection, or meditation time, this is a beautifully simple tool.Sometimes the smallest structure makes the biggest difference.
The value of this item is far greater than what you’re paying. The idea is simple, a candle that burns for twenty minutes, providing time for you to meditate and or connect with God. Heading into Lent, this seemed like the perfect way for me to spend 20 minutes a day focusing on my faith. This candle is about elegance through simplicity. It doesn’t make a mess when it’s burning by dripping everywhere. It also comes with directions and an accompanying paper connecting you to their online community. As someone who has difficulty disconnecting from technology, this twenty minutes exercise is exactly what I needed to disconnect.
